Getting checkups is one of many things you can do to stay healthy and prevent diseases and disability. During the COVID-19 pandemic, going to the doctor has been commonly put off to avoid the risk of exposure. However, at this point, many physicians have taken steps to ensure their offices remain safe and have begun offering telehealth options when applicable.

Regular and routine care continues to remain important, especially for those with underlying health conditions. Do not put things off because COVID-19-related disruptions can result in other problems worsening. If you have any concerns, make an effort to consult with your doctor.

If you haven’t already, take time to schedule age- and gender-related screenings, vaccines and specialist appointments. We all have unique health needs that change throughout our lives. Ask your primary care provider what tests they recommend based on your family history, current health status, age, gender and lifestyle. You may also use this health checklist to get started.

Below are the annual appointments that should be on your preventative health plan:

  • Physical exam including bloodwork
  • Flu shot
  • Dental checkup and cleanings
  • Vision screen
  • Dermatologist screen
  • Mammogram
  • Prostate exam
  • Colonoscopy
