According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer for women in the U.S. and the most common cancer in the world. Both men and women can be affected, with approximately 1 in 8 women and 1 in 100 men diagnosed over the course of their life.

Thankfully, more than half of the breast cancer diagnosed cases are localized, but there are about 30% of women who later develop metastatic breast cancer, meaning the cancer spreads to other parts of the body, making it more challenging to treat. Anyone can be affected by breast cancer, which is why it is so important to get yearly screenings and live a prehab lifestyle.

Every October, we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month by partnering with breastcancer.org for our October Together initiative. The goal of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is to increase awareness, screenings, education and prevention of the disease, but also to practice empathy and learn how to best support those who are affected.

This month, make sure to utilize as many resources as possible and get involved! Share with your friends and family how they can join you in supporting people that need extra comfort, whether that be participating in fundraising efforts, volunteering, sharing kind notes or gestures or donating to the cause. Empathy is an incredible two-way street. Showing empathy towards others can provide you and those you were able to help with immense gratitude.

Take this opportunity to make a difference by helping us spend October Together.
