Pickleball has been gaining popularity at a rapid pace. In fact, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, pickleball has claimed the title of the fastest growing sport in America, having grown almost 224% since 2020. While golf still ranks the highest sport utilized to build relationships with potential clients and partners, pickleball is beginning to close the gap — serving as a fun way to network with other business associates.

Why is there so much excitement surrounding pickleball? Major growth began during the pandemic because individuals were looking for a new way to stay active. With smaller courts and low start-up costs, individuals took to the game and played in their driveway or at a local tennis court. This racket sport is a combination of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. The ball is lighter, the paddle is shorter, and the is court smaller, making pickleball more manageable to learn. While it can take hand-eye coordination, it’s a much less technical sport than tennis or golf, but it’s still challenging.

Ultimately, pickleball is a form of cardiovascular exercise that can strengthen your lungs and heart. It also can assist with muscular strength, flexibility and balance. The benefits aren’t just physical — playing pickleball can decrease stress and increase sociability.

Because pickleball is a dynamic game that requires quick movement in all directions, it’s important to prepare your body properly. Whether you are a beginner or a more seasoned player, exercising off the court can help you improve your game and, more importantly, prevent injury.
